Tombs named NEC Golfer of the Week after Rhode Island Invitational win

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Following the second individual title of his career, Bryant University senior Ryan Tombs (Bedford, N.H.) has been named the Northeast Conference Golfer of the Week.

Tombs, a two-time All-NEC honoree, claimed his second win of the year at the Rhode Island Invitational at Quidnesset Country Club Monday and Tuesday. The senior finished first in a 78-golfer field and helped the Bulldogs to a second-place team finish.

At one under, Tombs was the only golfer to finish below par, carding rounds of 72, 72 and 71 to win by one stroke. The victory followed an 11th-place finish at the VGA/UConn Collegiate Invitational, where he carded a 219 over three rounds. He shot a four-under 68 in the second round, the lowest round of the tournament.

Over the season, Tombs has posted a team-best 72.8 stroke average. This is Tombs's third NEC award of the 2016-17 campaign, as the senior earned the NEC Golfer of the Month award twice in the fall.

Rookie Will Del Biaggio (San Jose, Calif.) was named an NEC Prime Performer for his individual victory at the VGA/UConn Collegiate Invitational. Del Biaggio carded a three-under 213 for his first-career title.

The Bulldogs return to the green next for the NEC Championship April 28-30.
