Roberts, Stafford earn all-NEC honors

SOMERSET, N.J. – Bryant University men's golf graduate student John Roberts (West Hartford, Conn.) and sophomore Matthew Stafford (Suffield, Conn.) have been selected to the Northeast Conference second team for the 2017-18 season, as announced Friday afternoon by the conference office.

Roberts recorded a 76.1 scoring average while playing in all 23 rounds during his final season in Smithfield. The Bulldog graduate student recorded a season-best sixth-place result at the Northeast Conference Championship, coming in at +6 for the tournament after carding a 70 in his final collegiate round. Roberts had five top-25 finishes on the year.

Stafford posted a team-best 75.8 scoring average in his sophomore season while missing part of the fall due to injury. The sophomore from Connecticut recorded five top-25 finishes in seven tournaments, including an 11th-place result at April's Northeast Conference Championship.

Bryant returns four of its five competitors from the NEC Championship, and a total of seven golfers who appeared in at least three tournaments, when they begin play in the fall of 2018. Two of them – junior Ryan Brown (Bedford, N.H.) and sophomore Connor Henderson (Southborough, Mass.) – played in all 11 events in 2017-18.
