Kim, Stafford with three birdies each on Day 1 at GreatHorse

QUECHEE, Vt. – The Bryant University men's golf team currently sits 12th out of 13 teams after Day 1 at the UConn Invitational at GreatHorse, held in Hampden, Mass.

Sophomore Nick Piersall (Avon, Conn.) led the Bulldogs with a 4-over 76, while junior Matthew Stafford (Suffield, Conn.) finished the day with a 5-over 77.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Piersall finished with 15 pars in the first round, with bogeys on one and six and a double on 14 to finish his scoring.
  • Stafford tied for the team lead with three birdies, circling the Par-4 sixth and Par-4 17th, as well as the Par-5 14th. He also added seven pars on the afternoon.
  • Senior Jake Ratti (Hanover, Mass.) and sophomore Doug Champagne (Bow, N.H.) each finished with 6-over 78's to finish off the team scoring. Both added a pair of birdies, with Ratti birdieing the par-5 8th and 11th, and Champagne put birdies down on the first and fourth holes.
  • Junior Connor Henderson (Southborough, Mass.) was the fifth Bulldog competing under the team flag, scoring birdies on the fourth and 16th.
  • Classmate Payton Kim (Palatine, Ill.) equaled Stafford's total of three birdies, recording them on the first, fourth and eighth holes of the day.
