Stafford, Brown finish in top 20 at Lafayette

HELLERTOWN, Pa. – Senior Ryan Brown (Bedford, N.H.) carded an even-par 72 Monday for the team's best round of the day, helping the Bryant University men's golf team to a 10th-place result at the Abarta Coca-Cola Lehigh Valley Intercollegiate Tournament.

Brown's 18th-place finish was one of two in the top 20 for the Bulldogs, as junior Matthew Stafford (Suffield, Conn.) joined him by placing ninth in the field of 116 golfers.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Brown opened the day with a birdie on the par-4 17th and was 2-under after a birdie on 1. The senior birdied a pair of par 5s on 9 and 15 to finish the day even.
  • Stafford followed Sunday's 70 with a 76 for a top-10 finish.
  • Junior Connor Henderson (Southborough, Mass.) shot a 4-over 76 to finish 33rd.
  • Sophomore Nick Piersall (Portland, Conn.) and sophomore Doug Champagne (Bow, N.H.) finished in a tie for 74th with Champagne playing as an individual.
  • Freshman Luke Carroll (West Hartford, Conn.) rebounded to shoot a 77 Monday to conclude his first spring tournament.
  • Robert Morris took the team title by four strokes over host Lafayette. Bucknell's Chris Tanabe earned individual medalist honors shooting 3-under for the tournament.
