BRYANT MEN FALL TO CW POST 14-9

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. (April 8, 2006) - Four different players netted hat tricks for the second-ranked C.W. Post men's lacrosse team Saturday afternoon at Hickox Field, as the Pioneers moved past No. 8 Bryant, 14-9, in non-conference action. The win was third straight for host C.W. Post over a top-10 opponent.

The visiting Bulldogs (5-3) went in front on a Bryan Kaufmann goal 4:45 into the contest, before C.W. Post (5-1) tallied the next four goals of the game to take a 4-1 advantage when Kenny Watson scored his second goal of the contest with 5:21 left in the first period. Jedd Storeshenko and Matt McKeefrey (3 g) cut the Pioneers advantage to one with 30 seconds remaining in the period, before Colin Achenbach (3 g, 3 a, game-high 6 pts.) converted scooped up a loose ball after a length of the field clear by Rob Blount (3 caused turnovers) and tallied with 1.1 seconds remaining to give the hosts a 5-3 lead.

Achenbach's tally started a 4-0 run by C.W. Post that lasted early into the third quarter, when Ralph Carino's (hat trick, 1 a) first of three third-period goals gave his team an 8-3 lead with 12:39 remaining in the third frame. The Bulldogs scored three of the next four goals to move within a 9-6 score, before Carino completed the hat trick, and scored the eventual game-winner, with less than three seconds in the stanza to push the Pioneers lead to 10-6.

Christian Schaare scored his first goal of the season 2:58 into the fourth period, before McKeefrey countered 30 seconds later with his second goal of the game to put the Bryant deficit back at four goals. A pair of Jeremy Jablonski (hat trick) goals sandwiched Watson's third of the game, giving the Pioneers an insurmountable 14-7 lead. McKeefrey and Kevin Hoagland (2 g) scored in the final minute for the Bulldogs.

Though Bryant won the shots (32-29), ground balls (45-34) and face-offs (17-of-24) categories, C.W. Post forced 28 Bulldogs turnovers. The Pioneers enjoyed another solid day on special teams, scoring on three of their seven man-up opportunities while surrendering just one Bryant EMO marker in five tries.

Jimmy Davis contributed one goal and an assist for C.W. Post, which tallied assists on 11 of its 14 goals. Eight different Pioneers handed out helpers, including single-assist days by Greg Cerar, Tom Hill and Mike Dimler. Sophomore goalkeeper Mike Rimmer made six saves in the C.W. Post cage to capture the win.

Bryant also received two-point days from Corey Crosbie (1 g, 1 a), Adam Smith (2 a) and Bryan Molk (2 a), while Andrew Hennessey won 17 of his 24 face-offs on the afternoon. Starting keeper Michael Kennedy took the loss after surrendering seven goals against three saves in the first half of play. Brad Burkhardt made four stops and allowed seven goals in the second half for Bryant.

Barring an upset Saturday afternoon by Pace over host and top-ranked Le Moyne in Syracuse, today's results set the stage for a potential No. 1 vs. No. 2 match-up next Saturday (April 15), as the No. 1 Dolphins visit Hickox Field for a 12 Noon non-conference face-off with head coach Tom Postel's C.W. Post squad.
