Sophomore named NEC Co-Defensive Player of Week

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – For the second consecutive week, Bryant University men's lacrosse sophomore Mason Poli (Downingtown, Pa. / Downingtown East) has garnered Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Week after another strong outing for the Bulldogs in two games last week.

Poli led the Bulldogs in both ground balls (11), and caused turnovers (8), while adding his fifth and sixth tallies of the season in a pair of one-goal losses to nationally ranked Yale and league foe Robert Morris.

The sophomore notched a goal in each contest, scoring the game-opening goal less than two minutes in to give Bryant a 1-0 lead over #14/18 Yale and giving his team a 3-2 edge over Robert Morris with an unassisted score with 6:14 to play in the first quarter.

Against Yale, Poli matched his career high with six caused turnovers while also tying his personal best with six ground balls in the outing.  Both statistics marked game highs.  Against the Colonials, Poli picked up five more ground balls while adding two caused turnovers for eight on the week.  On the year, Poli leads the team with 31 caused turnovers and is second with 58 ground balls

Bryant will wrap up the regular season this Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Maryland to face first-place Mount St. Mary's at 1 p.m.
