Lax pair named Senior Scholar-Athletes

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University senior captain Anthony Iannello (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) and graduate student Trever Sipperly (Greenwich, N.Y.) were among 26 men's lacrosse graduating student-athletes selected to the 2011 New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) All-New England Senior Scholar-Athlete Team, as announced Friday afternoon.

The pair joins an esteemed list of the best and brightest on the field and in the classroom throughout New England's Division I programs. To qualify, student-athletes must be graduating seniors who have earned a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above and who have excelled on the field of play.

Iannello, a two-time captain and longstick midfielder, leaves Bryant as the second all-time leader in career caused turnovers and ranks eighth in program history with 170 career ground balls. An all-conference and all-New England selection last season, Iannello is one of just 10 Lowe's Senior CLASS Award finalists nationwide in 2011 and is a five-time Dean's List honoree at Bryant.

Sipperly spent just a single season with the Bulldogs after transferring from Notre Dame for his final year of eligibility, and took on the task of filling in the team's hole at starting faceoff specialist while juggling a full academic workload within Bryant's prestigious Graduate School as a Master's of Business Administration candidate. A Dean's List honoree and 2011 All-Northeast Conference First Team selection, he posted a .603 faceoff winning percentage that ranks 11th in the nation and picked up a team-best 84 ground balls on the year. Sipperly added four goals and a pair of assists to his impressive season numbers, and capped off his final campaign with an NEC All-Tournament Team nod.

Iannello will graduate Saturday, May 21 with a degree in communication. Sipperly is expected complete the one-year MBA program in August 2011.
