MacGrotty, Zomerfeld tabbed NEILA All-Stars

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University men's lacrosse seniors Alex Zomerfeld (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Matt MacGrotty (New Westminster, British Columbia) continue to rake in honors after the Bulldogs' historic 2014 season, as the pair were named to the NEILA East/West Senior All-Star Game roster late last week.

The duo will suit up for the East in a game to be held Friday, May 30 at 5:00 p.m. at Springfield College.

After scoring a goal and an assist for Team North in the USILA/LaxWorld North/South Game Monday, Zomerfeld will participate in this week's New England All-Star battle. The eighth-round MLL draft pick (New York Lizards) adds the recognition to a slew of postseason honors, including an NEILA All-New England nod. The senior captain finished the season fourth on the team in points (41) while leading the squad with 25 helpers and was the top two-way player on the field, posting top-5 numbers in points, assists, ground balls, shots and caused turnovers in 2014. He will graduate in the program's all-time top-10 in games played, games started, assists, shots, ground balls and game-winning goals. A two-time All-NEC First Teamer, Zomerfeld recorded three 3+ assist games this spring and tallied a pair of man-up goals.

A three-year starting defenseman and cornerstone of the Bulldog backline, MacGrotty is a two-time All-NEC First Team pick and earned an NEILA All-New England Second Team accolade this spring as a senior captain. A consistent presence and strong leader for the Black and Gold, he led the team with 19 caused turnovers, adding 44 ground balls to his season numbers. MacGrotty was the only Bulldog named to the NEILA All-Academic Team as well.

The NEILA East/West Game is an annual tradition that gives exceptional graduating seniors a chance to represent their institutions on the lacrosse field one final time. The teams are made up of 25-man rosters across all three divisions of New England lacrosse.
