Morrell and Waldt take home ECAC weekly honors

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Bryant University men's lacrosse senior captains Shane Morrell (Glen Mills, Pa.) and Gunnar Waldt (Freeland, Md.) have been the Eastern College Athletic Conference Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week, respectively, the league announced Tuesday.

Morrell tallied 10 points on seven goals and three assists in two victories for Bryant. The senior started off with three goals and an assist, including the game-winner in OT, in Bryant's 11-10 road win over then-No. 2/3 Brown on Tuesday. The Glen Mills, Pa., native followed that performance with four goals and two assists in the Bulldogs' 18-5 conference win over Wagner on Saturday. Morrell now ranks second on the Bulldogs with 30 points and is tied for first on the team with 22 goals. He is the Northeast Conference's second-leading goal scorer and fifth-leading point producer.

Waldt finished the week with 22 total saves in two victories for Bryant. The senior turned away 17 shots in the Bulldogs' overtime victory against Brown, holding the nation's top scoring offense to just 10 goals in the 11-10 win. In the 18-5 win over Wagner, Waldt allowed just three goals in 48:50 and finished the week with a .618 save percentage. A Tewaaraton Award Watch List selection, Waldt leads the NEC and ranks 10th nationally in saves per game (11.67).
