James, Mummau selected in 2017 Major League Lacrosse Draft

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Just weeks after wrapping up two of the most storied careers in Bryant lacrosse history, senior captains and 2017 graduates Tucker James (Essex Fells, N.J.) and Kyle Mummau (Carlsbad, Calif.) have been selected in the 2017 Major League Lacrosse Draft.

The pair bring Bryant's total of MLL draftees to 10 and were selected just five picks apart. James, a four-time all-conference selection and 2017 USILA/Nike All-America Honorable Mention, was selected with the 52nd pick (sixth round) by the New York Lizards. Mummau, a three-time All-NEC First Teamer, was drafted 57th overall (seventh round) by the Chesapeake Bayhawks.

James became the first player in the program's Division I history to score 70 points in a season in 2017, leading the Bulldogs in goals (43), assists (27) and points (70). The senior captain and three-time All-NEC First Team selection led the Northeast Conference in scoring and ranked 26th nationally in points per game (3.68), also ranking in the nation's top-50 in goals per game (34th, 2.26), man-up goals (16th, 6) and assists per game (47th, 1.42).

A two-time NEILA All-New England selection, the four-year starter graduates as the program's Division I record holder in points (226) and goals (141), ranking third all-time in both categories. James set a new program mark for career games started (73) and holds the Bulldogs' single-game records for points (13), assists (7) and shots (15). James also became just the second player in Bryant lacrosse history and first at the Division I level to record 50 or more points in all four seasons, collecting 21 career hat tricks, including seven as a senior.

Another four-year starter and the team's top cover option throughout his career, Mummau added an NEILA All-New England selection to his third-straight All-NEC First Team honor in 2017. The captain anchored a Bryant defense that ranked fifth in the nation at just 8.16 goals allowed and recorded career highs in ground balls (26) and caused turnovers (18) as a senior. A Senior CLASS nominee this past season, the defenseman graduates 10th on the Bulldogs' all-time caused turnover list (46) and seventh in career games started (65). He is the first close defenseman drafted into the MLL from the program.

The pair of 2017 picks mark the fifth-straight season the Bulldogs have seen a player drafted in the MLL ranks.
