Bryant opens 2023 season Saturday at home vs Providence

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's lacrosse team opens its 2023 season on Saturday afternoon when it hosts in-state rival Providence College at Beirne Stadium. Faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.

Saturday will mark the head coaching debut for Brad Ross.

THE SERIES
Bryant owns a 9-4 lead in the Division I series. The Bulldogs have won each of the last two meetings, including a 19-7 victory last season in Providence.     

SCOUTING PROVIDENCE
Providence opened its season with a 12-9 win over Holy Cross last Sunday. Michael Chabra and Jack Horrigan each finished with hat tricks.     

BRYANT NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • The Bulldogs are coming off an 8-7 campaign in 2022. Bryant finished 6-1 in league play but fell in the semifinals of the NEC Tournament. 
  • Bryant begins its first season under head coach Brad Ross on Saturday. Ross was hired as the third head coach in program history last July. 
  • The Black and Gold will also compete in the America East this spring. 
  • Bryant lost its top three scorers from last season but returns 20-point scorers Aidan Goltz and Timmy Hackett
  • Kevin Groeninger has registered 10+ points in each of his first three seasons in Smithfield and will slot into the attack role this spring.
  • All-rookie selections Tanner Alexander and Drew Lucas are both back on defense for the Bulldogs this year. They combined for 67 ground balls and 26 caused turnovers.
