Bryant closes regular season at Merrimack

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's lacrosse team closes the regular season on Saturday afternoon at Merrimack. Faceoff is set for 1:00 p.m.

THE SERIES
Bryant is 11-5 all-time against Merrimack, including a 3-0 mark since the two teams have met as Division I opponents. The Bulldogs picked up a 16-4 victory last season at home. 

AMERICA EAST TOURNAMENT
Bryant has locked in one of four spots in next week's America East Men's Lacrosse Championship. The four-team tournament will be hosted by the University of Vermont in Burlington, Vt. Bryant is locked in as the No. 2 seed and will face the winner of Saturday's Binghamton and UAlbany winner. 

SCOUTING MERRIMACK
Merrimack enters the weekend at 6-6 overall and 2-4 in America East play. The Warriors are ineligible for the postseason tournament as they are completing the final season of their four-year transition. Merrimack is led by Jack Rooney's 45 points (22g, 23a). Brian Russell has scored a team-high 33 goals. 

BRYANT NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • The Bulldogs are 10-3 following a 17-12 victory over Brown on Tuesday night in the Ocean State Cup. Bryant has won 10 regular season games for the first time since 2016.
  • Bryant ranks fourth nationally in scoring offense with 15.38 goals per game.
  • The Bulldogs have five players with 30+ points (four with 40+), the first time that's happened since 2013-14 (Coach Ross' last season as an assistant).
  • Bryant and Virginia are the only two programs nationally to have four players with 40+ points.  
  • Kevin Groeninger paces the group with 54 points, while Johnny Hackett (37-11-48), Aidan Goltz (33-13-46), Jack Lonsinger (37-2-39) and Timmy Hackett (20-20-40) all have 30+.
  • Groeninger scored five goals two weeks ago vs UAlbany and matched his career high with seven points (4g, 3a) last week at Vermont.  
  • Lonsinger and Johnny Hackett continue to be two of the top-scoring freshmen in all of college lacrosse. They are tied for first with 2.85 goals per game each.
  • Nathan Laliberte 12th sixth nationally in faceoff winning percentage at .614. He added two goals and an assist on Saturday and has 13 points (7g, 6a) on the year.
