Bryant faces Binghamton Thursday in America East Semifinals

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The second-seeded Bryant University men's lacrosse team will face third-seeded Binghamton University in the 2023 America East Semifinals on Thursday night in Burlington, Vermont. Faceoff is set for 7:00 p.m.

Bryant will be competing in its first-ever America East Championship. The Black and Gold won six Northeast Conference Championships and advanced to the NCAA Tournament five times (2013, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2021). 

The Bryant-Binghamton winner will face the winner Thursday's other semifinal between top-seeded Vermont and fourth-seeded UAlbany in the America East Championship on Saturday, May 6.

THE SERIES
Bryant earned a 14-10 victory over Binghamton in the first meeting between the two programs earlier this year. The Bulldogs were led by six goals from Johnny Hackett and 18 saves from Teagan Alexander

BRYANT IN THE POSTSEASON
Bryant won six NEC Tournament titles from 2011-2022, including four-straight from 2012-2015. The Black and Gold's last championship came in 2021.

SCOUTING BINGHAMTON
Binghamton enters the tournament with a 9-4 overall record and a 5-2 mark in the America East. The Bearcats are one of the league's top scoring units, led by Matthew Keegan and Thomas Greenblatt. Both are averaging more than 4.00 points per game and rank first and third in the league, respectively.  

All Conference Accolades
Johnny Hackett was named the America East Rookie of the Year and was one of six Bulldogs to earn all-conference honors. Kevin Groeninger was named to the first team with Hackett, while Timmy Hackett and Drew Lucas earned second team honors. Jack Lonsinger and Hackett were also named to the all-rookie team.

BRYANT NOTES AND NOTABLES

  • The Bulldogs are 10-4 overall and went 5-2 in league play. Bryant is coming off a 12-9 loss to Merrimack last Saturday.
  • Bryant ranks sixth nationally in scoring offense with 14.98 goals per game.
  • The Bulldogs have five players with 40+ points for the first time in program history.
  • Bryant and Virginia are the only two programs nationally to have five players with 40+ points.  
  • Kevin Groeninger paces the group with 60 points, while Aidan Goltz (36-14-50), Johnny Hackett (39-10-49), Timmy Hackett (20-22-42) and Jack Lonsinger (39-2-41) all have 40+.
  • Groeninger posted six points in the season finale at Merrimack, becoming just the fifth player in DI program history to record 60+ points in a season. He is three assists shy of becoming the first player in DI program history to have 30+ goals and 30+ assists.
  • Lonsinger and Johnny Hackett continue to be two of the top-scoring freshmen in all of college lacrosse. They are tied for first nationally among freshmen with 2.79 goals per game each.
  • Nathan Laliberte 12th sixth nationally in faceoff winning percentage at .614. He has 13 points (7g, 6a) on the year. 
  • Drew Lucas has 50 ground balls and 19 caused turnovers on the year, while Tanner Alexander has 37 ground balls and 18 caused turnovers.
