Groeninger picks up Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors

BOSTON -- Bryant University men's lacrosse senior Kevin Groeninger was named the America East Men's Lacrosse Scholar-Athlete of the Year, the league office announced on Wednesday.

Groeninger is one of six spring student-athletes to earn recognition. In addition, Connor Goodman (Maine, baseball), Katie Pascale (UAlbany, women's lacrosse), Courtney Coppersmith (UMBC, softball), Matt Cavaliere (Binghamton, men's track) and Izzy Giesing (UMass Lowell, women's track) were honored.

In becoming the first Bryant student-athlete to earn America East Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors, Groeninger adds to an already impressive awards haul that includes USILA Scholar All-American honors. Groeninger led the Black and Gold to an America East Championship this spring, registering 68 points on 38 goals and 30 assists. He was named the men's lacrosse Tournament MOP after scoring five times and finishing with seven points in the championship game.

Groeninger completed his undergraduate degree in Finance this past May, graduating with a 3.74 GPA. He is returning to Smithfield for his fifth year and will obtain his MBA.
