Bulldogs fall to UVM on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University Men's Lacrosse team fell to the University of Vermont this Saturday at home by a final score of 16-12. Kevin Groeninger had a hat trick for Bryant and Nathan LaLiberte scored two faceoff goals in the contest. Charlie Pope and Max Frattaroli each had hat tricks for UVM.

  • UVM would outscore Bryant 8-2 in the second quarter and take a 10-6 lead into the half.

How it Happened

  • Scoring got underway at Beirne Stadium after UVM's Griffin Fenech found the back of the net just over 30 seconds into the game.

  • The Bulldogs would strike back after Kevin Groeninger would connect on two consecutive goals to give Bryant their first lead of the day.

  • Dawson Reilly would then get into the scoring column and extend Bryant's lead to three.

  • After a score by Vermont's Tristan Whitaker, Jack Lonsinger would find John Tomsheck who would go over the top and give Bryant a 4-2 lead after the first quarter.

  • The second quarter would open with a bang a Nathan LaLiberte would run the opening faceoff back and score his second goal of the season.

  • UVM would then go on an 8-1 run to close out the first half. Mason Drouin scored Bryant's lone goal during that stretch.

  • Vermont would carry their offensive production into the third quarter as they would open up with three straight goals (Whitaker, Frattaroli, Zhao). 

  • Aidan Goltz would eventually break the Catamounts scoring streak after scoring an unassisted goal with 44 seconds to go in the quarter.

  • Johnny Hackett would start the fourth quarter off strong for Bryant as he would net an unassisted score with 14:22 to go. 

  • Charlie Pope would score back-to-back times for Vermont including a man-up goal where he was assisted by Brock Haley.

  • Hackett would find the net once again after being assisted by Kevin Groeninger.

  • Hackett would then assist Aidan Goltz who would record a man-up goal with just under seven to play.

  • On the following draw, Nathan LaLiberte would proceed to score another faceoff goal and cut the Bryant deficit to four.

  • Down a man with 2:14 to play, Aidan Goltz would late Groeninger for his third goal of the game.

  • UVM outshot Bryant 54-42 on Saturday

  • Bryant would convert on 18-20 clear opportunities

  • Vermont won the ground ball margin 35-33

  • The Bulldogs went 14-31 at the X. Nathan LaLiberte had the majority of draws going 14-28.

  • The Black and Gold would outscore the Catamounts 5-3 in the fourth quarter.
