Men's Soccer Loses to #13 SCSU 1-0

Smithfield, R.I. - The Bryant Men's Soccer team lost to 13th-ranked Southern Connecticut State 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Bulldog Stadium.

Owls defenseman Ancil Farrier scored the game's lone goal, scoring on a rebound off his own penalty-kick, which goaltender Alex Bissias (Harpswell, ME) had made a sprawling stop on. Farrier's goal, his fourth of the season, came in the 52nd minute.

The Bulldogs mounted a constant attack in the second half but could not beat Owls goaltender Brendan Lawless. A Bryan Gravel (Londonderry, N.H.) header was stopped by Lawless with only 1:14 remaining.

The Bulldogs dominated much of the scoreless first half, limiting the Owls to only one shot. They nearly scored in the 37th minute, but Mike Gargiulo (North Branford, Conn.), Kyle Tierney (Westborough, Mass.) and Wheeler Smith (Franklin,  Mass.) were all stopped at point-blank range by Owls goaltender Brendan Lawless. Lawless finished the half with four saves.

Bissias finished the match with six saves, while the Bulldogs outshot SCSU 12-7. This match featured 36 fouls and three yellow cards.

The Bulldogs (6-5-3, 4-5-3 NE-10) will host St. Thomas Aquinas Thursday at Bulldog Stadium (3:30 p.m.).
