Brown Scores Goal and Assist in 3-1 Victory over Bentley

WALTHAM, Mass. - Sophomore forward Matthew Brown (South Easton, MA) scored the equalizer and assisted on the game-winning goal to help Bryant top Bentley, 3-1, in Northeast-10 Conference men's soccer action on Wednesday afternoon at the Bentley Soccer Complex. With the win, the Bulldogs improved to 3-1 overall and 1-1 in the NE-10, while the Falcons fell to 0-3-1 overall after their first conference match.

After Bentley tallied the first goal, Brown responded 14 seconds later with an unassisted tally to even the score. It was Brown's second tally of the season.

The score remained tied through halftime until the 56th minute when Brown booted a kick from a low angle that deflected off Bentley goalkeeper Michael Nikiforov leaving Bryant sophomore Ryan Aspinall (Clinton, CT) with an open net to put the Bulldogs on top for good.

Bryant added an insurance goal in the 73rd minute as freshman Norbert Guery (Andover, MA) continued his outstanding start to the season as he collected the ball off a header and drilled a shot that found the back of the net for his team-leading third goal of the year.

Senior Thomas Madden (Saco, ME) manned the net for Bryant and needed to make only one save to collect the win as his Bulldogs outshot Bentley, 19-11, although a stingy Bryant defense allowed only two shots to make it through to the goalie.

The Bulldogs (3-1, 1-1 NE-10) will host Southern N.H. Saturday at 11 am in the 2007 home opener. The game will be played at Sutton Field on the Bryant campus.
