MEN'S SOCCER NIPPED BY MOUNT ST. MARY'S, 2-1

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - In heavy rain and wind, the Bryant University men's soccer team battled Mount St. Mary's for a full 90 minutes but came up just short losing 2-1.

The Bulldogs (3-11-0, 1-5-0) got on the board first in the 52nd minute. Junior Sean Kaukas (Glastonbury, Conn.) sent a corner kick into the box that senior captain Taylor Sabo (Scarborough, Maine) was able to get a foot on and hit into the back of the net. It was Sabo's second goal of the season.

The lead didn't last long for the Bulldogs as the Mount (3-9-0, 2-3-0) was able to score just two minutes later off a Chris Wheeler header. Senior Eric Mullins sent a ball in from the right side of the field into the 6-yard box to an awaiting Wheeler who shot the ball into the ride side-netting to tie the score.

The Mount struck again in the 67th minute. Eric Detzel sent a corner kick into the box that was kicked around and deflected right to Sophomore Ian Hendrie. Off the rebound, Hendrie shot the ball into an open net for the game-winner.

The Bulldogs hung tough and had multiple corner kick opportunities toward the end of the game but could not generate a score. Bryant junior keeper Victor Tutino (Deer Park, N.Y.) made five saves in the contest.

The Bulldogs return to action on Friday, Oct. 23 for senior day against Sacred Heart. The game is scheduled to be played at 3 p.m. at Sutton Field.
