BULLDOGS UPSET PIONEERS ON SENIOR DAY AT SUTTON FIELD

SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University men's soccer team sent its seniors out on a high note Wednesday afternoon as it defeated Northeast Conference member Sacred Heart, 1-0, on senior day at Sutton Field.

The Pioneers (6-6-2, 3-3-1 NEC) came into the matchup in fourth place in the conference while the Bulldogs, who improved to 4-11-0 overall and 2-5-0 in the NEC, were in last before today's matchup.

Bryant had plenty of opportunities in the first half, totaling nine shots in the period. The Bulldogs found the net for the game's only goal in the 36th minute off a Sean Reilly (Monroe, N.Y.) free kick. Reilly sent a high-arcing ball into the box and 6' 5" junior Tom Nelan (East Haddam, Conn.) was able to out-jump everyone and head the ball into the left corner of the goal to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead. Nelan's third goal of the season turned out to be the game-winner.

The Bulldogs outshot the Pioneers 17-15 in the contest but faced 14 Sacred Heart shots in the second half. Freshman keeper Matt Miscione (Ashburn, Va.) held strong recording six saves in the half and seven total. Pioneer keeper Alex Fait also recorded seven saves in the contest.

The Bulldogs return to action in two days on Sunday, Oct. 23 when they travel to Teaneck, N.J. to face NEC opponent Fairleigh Dickinson at 1 p.m.
