SMITHFIELD, R.I. - The Bryant University men's soccer team held its own Friday afternoon against eighth-ranked Monmouth University but two goals in the final 10 minutes helped propel the Hawks past the upset-minded Bulldogs 2-0 in Northeast Conference action at Bulldog Stadium.

Monmouth (12-0-1) held a 9-5 shot advantage in the first half but couldn't get a shot past Bryant goalie Victor Tutino (Deer Park, N.Y.).  The junior played a strong game between the pipes and got some help from his defense as senior Patrick Bedard (East Longmeadow, Mass.) cleared away a header by Chase Barieri following a corner kick in the sixth minute.

Bryant (3-10) had several good chances to go up moments later as freshman Sean Reilly (Monroe, N.Y.) set a beautiful cross to senior Matthew Brown (South Easton, Mass.) but Brown's header sailed just over the cross bar.

Just before the half, Tom Nelan (East Haddam, Conn.) flicked a pass to Nicholas Parisi (Holbrook, N.Y.) but his one-timer was wide of the net.

The second half was more of the same as both teams battled hard for each ball and Tutino coming up with several excellent saves. He would finish with eight stops in the game.

Max Hamilton finally broke the scoreless tie with an unassisted goal in the 82nd minute.  The sophomore collected a loose ball off a free Monmouth kick and beat Tutino low to the right for what would prove to be the game-winner.  Ryan Kinne added a tally a minute later to round out the scoring.

Bryant will host Mount St. Mary's this Sunday for a Northeast Conference game starting at 1 pm.
