MEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO STONY BROOK 3-0 SUNDAY AFTERNOON

SMITHFIELD, RI- The Bryant University men's soccer team lost to Stony Brook 3-0 in the first game of a Bulldog soccer doubleheader this afternoon.

The Bulldogs (0-3) played the Seawolves (1-2) tough for most of the first half until Stony Brook midfielder, Wilber Bonilla, struck a ball from the top of the box that found the upper right corner of the net in the 44th minute.  Bonilla scored two goals on the day for the Seawolves.

The Bulldogs best opportunity came early in the second half when junior Erik Lekstrom (Worcester, Mass.) sent a cross over two Stony Brook defenders and right to the head of classmate Sean Kaukas (Glastonbury, Conn.). Kaukas' pass went across the box to the head of Matt Brown (South Easton, Mass.) who shot the ball just wide of the left post.

Bryant was outshot 12-5 in the contest but did have the lead in corners taken with a margin of 4-0. Freshman goalkeeper Matt Miscione (Ashburn, Va.) had seven saves in the contest.

The Bulldogs return to action at Holy Cross on Tuesday, Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. The men will host Army on Friday, Sept. 11 at 3 p.m. That game will be broadcast live on bryantbulldogs.tv
