BULLDOGS SHUTOUT BY 18TH RANKED MONMOUTH, 3-0, SUNDAY AFTERNOON

The Bryant University men's soccer team dropped to 2-4-2 in the Northeast Conference after falling to 18th-ranked Monmouth, 3-0, on the road Sunday afternoon.

The Bulldogs, falling to 4-8-2 on the season, were shutout in a physical matchup that saw 27 fouls and two yellow cards issued while Monmouth improved to 10-1-2 overall and 4-0-2 in the conference.

The Hawks scored the lone tally of the first half in the 37th minute when Cesat Blacido sent a through ball to Erkko Puranen, who was able to send a sliding shot past Bryant Keeper Victor Tutino (Deer park, N.Y.) for the early lead.

Monmouth scored its second goal in the 61st minute when Matt Beverin sent an arching pass into the Bulldog box where Chase Barbieri was able to get a head on it and beat Tutinto for the 2-0 advantage. Christian Nogueria was also credited with an assist on the play.

The final tally of the match was scored in the 90th minute after Bryant was whistled for a penalty in the box. Ryan Kinne then drove home the penalty kick for his 10th goal of the season.

Freshman Terence Morrissey (Hingham, Mass.) paced the Bulldogs on offense with two shots in the contest while Tutino recorded three saves in net.

The Black and Gold return to action on Sunday, Oct. 29 for senior day when they host Fairleigh Dickinson at 3:00 p.m.
