Men drop 2-0 decision to Pioneers in finale

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – A pair of early goals for Sacred Heart proved to be enough for the Pioneers as the Bryant University men's soccer team dropped its season finale, 2-0, Sunday afternoon in Fairfield, Conn.

The Bulldogs concluded their third season at the Division l level with a 4-10-2 overall record and a 2-6-2 mark in the Northeast Conference.

The first score of the game came at the 17 minute mark when Brian Francaolini setup Lusiano Dadario for a breakaway run that ended with a shot past the reach of Bryant keeper Victor Tutino (Deer Park, N.Y.).

Sacred Heart added to its lead ten minutes later when defender Marcello Castero sent a free kick into the Bulldog box. Sergio Frietas picked up the pass amidst a group of Bryant defenders, gained enough space and fired a shot to the right side of the net for the 2-0 advantage.

Tutino made four saves in between the pipes for the Bulldogs and George Spanos (Garden City, N.Y.) made one save on the day after he came in for Tutitno following a pair of yellow cards. Tyler Locatell recorded two stops in net for the Pioneers.

Senior Erik Lekstrom (Worcester, Mass.) paced the Bulldogs on offense with three shots in the game while sacred Heart outshot the visitors by a margin of 13-7.
