MEN'S SOCCER LOOKS TO STAY UNBEATEN IN SEPTEMBER, SUNDAY VS. MANHATTAN
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off a 2-1 win over George Washington on Sunday (Sept. 16), men's soccer will look to make it two in a row when they host Manhattan College, Sunday at 1 p.m. at Sutton Field.
The Bulldogs earned their first W of the season against the Colonials led by a three-point effort from reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week, Brett Larocque (Ottawa, Ont.).
After a scoreless first half on Sunday, the Black and Gold took advantage of their first scoring opportunity of the final 45 minutes. Connor Norat (Wilmington, Del.) followed up a Larocque shot attempt in the 64th minute, burying his second score of 2012 to put Bryant up 1-0.
Less than five minutes later Lucas Guerriero (Pickering, Ont.) delivered a beautiful ball across the pitch to a streaking Larocque who beat Colonial keeper JP van der Merwe in the 69th minute for his second goal of the season, as well, increasing the Bulldog lead to 2-0.
GW would find the net in the 81st minute, when Tyler Ranalli received a pass off a free kick to cut the Bryant lead in half, however, it would not be enough as the Black and Gold held on to improve to 1-2-1.
The Jaspers enter weekend play with a record of 0-5, after dropping a 3-2 contest at Temple on Tuesday, Sept. 11. Manhattan will face off with NEC-foe St. Francis (NY) on Friday before heading to Smithfield on Sunday. Last season, the Jaspers won five of their final eight games en route to a MAAC Tournament Championship appearance. Naru Park, Tommy Amos and Alex Shackley have each registered goals this season.
The two teams met last September in Riverdale, N.Y., with the Bulldogs prevailing, 1-0. The lone score came in the 64th minute off a helper from Norat.
