Bulldogs fall to Sacred Heart, 2-1

TWO SECOND-HALF PIONEER SCORES TOO MUCH FOR BULLDOGS TO OVERCOME

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's soccer team came up short on the road against Sacred Heart, 2-1, Friday evening.

The Bulldogs fall to 4-7-1 on the season, dropping to 2-5 in the NEC, while the Pioneers get back to .500 in conference, improving to 3-3.

Bryant got on the board first, in the 38th minute, when junior Tony Flaim (Fort Lee, N.J.) received a pass from senior Eddie Curry (Massapequa, N.Y.) giving the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead going into halftime.

The second half was controlled by the home team as the Pioneers were able to score two goals in the final 30 minutes of play. In the 63rd minute, Simon Harresen collected the ball after a scramble in front of the net, feeding Marcello Castro for the header past Bryant keeper George Spanos (Garden City, N.Y.), evening the score at, 1-1.

Just over 20 minuetes later, Giancarlo Maurello fed Omer Levy for the game-winning marker with less than five minutes to play, propelling the Pioneers to a 2-1 victory.

Sacred Heart outshot Bryant, 15-10, in the contest. Pioneer keeper Tucker Hacket recorded six saves in the match, while Spanos stopped four shots in his second start of the season.

The Bulldogs will head to St. Francis (NY) for a showdown with the Terriers at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
