Bryant hosts Fairleigh Dickinson Sunday

MEN'S SOCCER HOSTS FDU SUNDAY 12 PM FOR SENIOR DAY 2012

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Sunday afternoon, the Bryant University men's soccer program will honor six seniors playing in their final home match in a Bulldog uniform, when the Black and Gold host Fairleigh Dickinson at 12 p.m. on Sutton Field.

The Bulldogs enter Sunday's action with a 5-8-1 overall record, 3-5 through eight games of their Northeast Conference slate. The Knights (8-4-3) come to Smithfield boasting a 5-0-2 NEC mark, sitting atop the conference standings entering the weekend. With only two games remaining on their 2012 schedule, every match is crucial for the Bulldogs.

Last time out, Bryant fell to Holy Cross in a nonconference match that was rescheduled from Sept. 8.

Both teams were held scoreless through the first 45 minutes of play, with Bryant freshman keeper Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine) making two of his game-high five saves in the first half. Holy Cross goalie Kevin Wright recorded a save in each of the periods.

The lone score of the match came in the 61st minute when Tommy Uttaro delivered a ball from the right side that was headed toward the goal by Kevin O'Connell, and then cleaned up by Josh Cintas, who beat Knaub for his sixth marker of the year.

Bryant senior Eddie Curry (Massapequa, N.Y.) and sophomore Connor Norat (Wilmington, Del.) each recorded a shot on goal, but the Bulldogs were unable to net the equalizer.

The Crusaders outshot the visitors, 12-9, earning seven corner kicks in the match, compared to Bryant's two.

The Knights are coming off a close 1-0 win over NEC-foe Robert Morris on Sunday as they held on to remain undefeated in league play. Senior Jack Mcvey leads the balanced FDU attack with 14 points this season on five goals and four assists, while sophomore Nico Wright has added five goals and two assists of his own, totaling 12 points. Junior Jacob Lissek handles the goalkeeping duties for the Knights, registering a 1.02 goals against average and racking-up seven shutouts.

The Bulldogs will be out to avenge last season's shutout loss to FDU, as they attempt to send the seniors off on a high-note.
