Bulldogs fight but fall at #20 Brown, 1-0

MEN'S SOCCER COMES UP JUST SHORT AT #20 BROWN FRIDAY NIGHT

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite outshooting a nationally-ranked Brown squad, the Bryant University men's soccer team fell to the Bears, 1-0, Friday night in Providence, R.I.

A goal by #20 Brown's Voltaire Escalona in the 67th minute proved to be the difference as the Bulldogs (1-2) drop their second-straight one-goal match. With the win, the Ivy League powerhouse earns its first victory of the 2013 campaign.

Jose Salama found Escalona who corralled the Salama pass to beat Bryant keeper Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine) for the lone score of the contest. The Black and Gold outshot the home team, 9-6, also earning five corners compared to just one for Brown. Sophomore Brett Larocque (Ottawa, Ont.) led the way with two shots, including one on-goal, while freshman defender Chris McCormick (Westfield, Mass.) fired off a pair of strikes of his own.

Knaub picks up his second loss of the year despite a valiant effort, stopping three Brown attempts in the process, while Josh Weiner earns the victory with a quartet of saves.

The Bulldogs will look to get back on track when they head to Kingston, R.I., for second round action of the Ocean State Classic, Sunday at 7 p.m. vs. URI.
