Crusaders cruise past Bulldogs, 4-1, Sat.

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – A second-half hat trick from Holy Cross's Joey DeVivo was too much for the Bryant University men's soccer team to overcome, as the Bulldogs fell to the Crusaders, 4-1, Saturday afternoon in Smithfield.

The Bulldogs looked sharp early on with sophomores Brett Larocque (Ottawa, Ont.) and Marco Addonizio (Lynnfield, Mass.) connecting on Addonizio's second marker of the season just 10 minutes into the match.

However the second half was all Holy Cross as the Crusaders piled on four goals in a 16 minute span, including three in-a-row from DeVivo, to earn a convincing 4-1 victory.

The Crusaders we dominate in the final 45 minutes, outshooting the Black and Gold, 9-3 (18-8 for the game). Goalkeeper Chris Knaub (Yarmouth, Maine) stopped a season-high nine shots despite the loss while Kevin Wright allowed just one goal in his second win of the year.

Bryant will close out non-conference play next week with matches at Saint Peter's on Friday and NJIT on Sunday before opening Northeast Conference action on Friday, Oct. 11 at Robert Morris.
