Yale blanks Bulldogs at Beirne Stadium

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University Men's soccer team had trouble finding the back of the net in its 4-0 loss to Yale late Tuesday afternoon.

Key Moment

In the 34th minute of play, Yale took the lead that they would never surrender when Miguel Yuste chipped the ball over Olivier Larente's (Garches, France) head off of a pass from Paola Carroll.

Scoring Summary

  • 34' – Yale 1, Bryant 0 – Yuste made a run inside the box and Carroll was able to find him on the pass. Bryant's Larente came off his line and Yaste chipped the ball just over his head.
  • 38' – Yale 2, Bryant 0 – Aldo Quevedo and Ryan Matteo play off each other to find Nicky Downs on the far left side of the box. Downs blasted the ball past Larente to the far post to grow Yale's lead.
  • 63' – Yale 3, Bryant 0 – Downs took Yale's fifth corner kick of the game and floated the ball over the box. Cameron Riach headed the ball and put it in position for Carroll to head it home for the Bulldogs.   
  • 88' – Yale 4, Bryant 0 – Adedeji Palmer dribbled around Bryant defenders in Yale's offensive third of the field. Palmer shot the ball from the top right of the box past Jack Sanders (Garden City, N.Y.). 

Stats/Notes

  • Junior George Gill (Cork, Munster, Ireland) led the Bulldogs with three shots and two on goal. Charles DeSantis (Saint-Mathias-Sur-Richelieu, Quebec), Antonio Terceros (Toronto, Ont.), Ricardo Becerra (Southlake, Texas), and Anthony Barreira (Foxboro, Mass.) each put a shot on frame for the Bulldogs.
  • Larente tallied five saves and Sanders added a pair for a total of seven stopped shots.
  • Both Bulldog teams matched with seven corner kicks on the day.
  • In the first half, Bryant and Yale were even keeled with a total of nine shots, but Yale outshot Bryant in the second half, 9-6.
