SWIM TEAMS HOST PROVIDENCE FRIDAY NIGHT

The Bryant University men's and women's swim teams return to action this Friday evening with a non-conference dual meet with the Providence College Friars. The Bulldogs will be looking to bounce back from a pair of losses to Boston College back on November 1 before heading back ou ton the road next weekend with a trip to Fairfield.  This will be the second meeting between the Bulldogs and Friars and the first at the Chace Athletic Center.

Last Week Against Boston College
Against Boston College in the team's last time out, Alex Kosenski led the Bulldog men with a pair of event wins though the men fell 155-102 to the Eagles. The women were edged out by a score of 135-115.  Kosenski took his first win in the 200-yard free, touching the wall in 1:47.95, narrowly missing the pool record. The second-year swimmer also took a win in the 50 free (22.38) and finished second in the 100 free (49.05), less than a second behind the winner. Classmate Kevin McDonald took home a victory in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 56.07, also finishing third in the 200-yard version (2:05.25).  The Bulldogs took a win in the meet's closing race, the team of McDonald, Thomas Huynh, Steve Nguyen and Kosenski winning the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:30.96.

On the women's side, freshman Casey Ostrander set new pool and school records while fellow rookie Molly Smith set a pool record of her own.   Both a pool and school record fell in the 100-yard free, as Ostrander touched the wall in 1:00.02 to take first over the Eagles' Kayla Posocco. Ostrander topped the record of current teammate Jill Squillante by just under three-fourths of a second to break the school mark. The rookie would also take first in the 50-yard free, clocking in at 25.53 and anchored Bryant's winning 200-yard freestyle relay. The Bulldog women saw another pool record fall in the 400 IM, when Smith took first with a time of 4:43.19, shattering the current record by nearly six seconds. Sophomore Abby Whittaker took second in the event in 4:59.07. Smith earned her second win of the day in the 200 breaststroke, finishing in a time of 2:31.54.

Last Year Against Providence
Bryant fell to the Friars last November in Providence despite setting a whopping 21 school records in the dual meet.  The Friars picked up a 148-112 win in the men's meet and 151-111 on the women's side.  Whittaker earned a first-place victory in the 200 butterfly and placed second in the 800 meters while Squillante took first in the 100 backstroke and was later third in the 200 backstroke.  Jess Looney captured first in the 400 free and placed second in the 200 free - both in school record times.  The men were led by Nguyen's first place finish in both the 400 and 800 freestyle.

The Road Ahead
The Bulldogs head back out on the road next weekend when they head to Fairfield, Conn. to take on Fairfield in a men's and women's dual meet on Nov. 21.  The teams will take on Canisius in New York on Jan. 16 with the next home meet coming up on Jan. 20 when the Bulldogs welcome the Holy Cross Crusaders to the Chace Athletic Center pool.
