MEN'S SWIMMING TOPS MAINE FOR FIRST WIN OF SEASON
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Nicholas Karadimas (New Milford, Conn.) made an impressive debut in his first home meet as a member of the Bryant University men's swim team as he took top honors in three events to pace the Bulldogs past visiting Maine, 146-116, at the Chace Athletic Center Friday night.
The rookie claimed first-place and set a pool record in the 200-yard free with a time 1:46.40 while teammate Alex Kosenski (Lavallette, N.J.) finished close behind in second-place with a time of 1:47.06. Karadimas also set pool records in the 100-yard fly and 200-yard IM with top times of 53.04 and 2:01.00, respectively.
Freshman Cameron Hessler (Southbury, Conn.) also enjoyed a notable home debut as he claimed the 100-yard back in a time of 55.06 and the 200-yard back in 2:02.00. Hessler then teamed up with Thomas Huynh (Malden, Mass.), Sean Martell (Nashua, N.H.) and Nathan Lee (Monson, Mass.) to take home the 200-yard medley in a pool-record time of 1:39.93.
Other top finishers for the Bulldogs included senior Steven Nguyen (San Jose, Calif.), juniors Matthew Derwin (Cheshire, Conn.) and Kosenski and freshmen Lee.
Nguyen earned top honors in the 1000-yard free as he touched the wall in a time of 10:22.90 while Derwin placed first in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:01.50. Lee and Kosenki both earned wins as they took the 50-yard free and the 100-yard free with times of 22.35 and 48.04, respectively.
The Black and Gold return to the pool on Saturday, Nov. 13 when they take part in a tri-meet at Providence with Brown.
