Schulte takes two events in collegiate debut

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Freshman Ben Schulte (Mermaid Beach, Australia) two events and nearly broke a school record in his first collegiate race to lead the Bryant University men's swimming and diving team against Boston College last Friday.

In their first dual meet of the season, the Bulldogs fell 169-117. They are back in the pool on Friday, Oct. 24 when they head to Providence to take on the Friars.

Swimming in his first collegiate meet, Schulte impressed for the Black and Gold last Friday. He started his evening by finishing second in the 200 free (1:43.76) but went on to win both the 500 free and the 200 IM. Schulte won the 500 free with a time of 4:49.33 and then claimed the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.73, missing out on a school record by just seven hundredths of a second.

Top Performers

Graham Beck (Danvers, Mass.) – Finished third in the 100 (1:00.13) and 200 (2:15.07) breast stroke.

Colin Curtin (Wethersfield, Conn.) – Finished third in the 500 free (5:03.19), fourth in the 100 back (56.60) and fourth in the 200 back (2:07.21).

Zachary Hannon (Marlborough, Mass.) – Finished third in the 50 free with a time of 22.25.

Adam Gauthier (Middletown, Conn.) – Finished fourth in the both the 1 and 3 meter dives. Totaled 196.50 points on the 1 meter and 169.20 on the 3 meter.
