Bulldogs fall to UMass on Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's swimming and diving team fell to Massachusetts, 170-122, on Saturday afternoon in Amherst, Mass.

The Bulldogs received a pair of first-place finishes from freshman Ben Schulte (Mermaid Beach, Australia) on the day. Schulte won 200 free with a time of 1:44.14 and also claimed the 200 IM with a time of 1:56.54. He went on to finish second in the 200 breast with a time of 2:11.23.

Bryant also received strong performances from several other swimmers. Freshman Colin Curtin (Wethersfield, Conn.) finished third in the 1650 (17:00.93), second in the 100 back (55.55) and fourth in the 200 back (2:08.27). Senior Graham Beck (Danvers, Mass.) put together a solid performance, finishing second in the 100 breast (1:01.06), third in the 200 breast (2:17.36) and third in the 500 free (5:01.17).

Junior Andrew Neggia (Ramsey, N.J.) also had a strong showing, finishing second in the 500 free (4:57.24) and third in the 200 fly (2:05.86). Freshman Benon Boyadjian (Middlebury, Conn.) finished third in the 200 back (2:03.82), third in the 100 back (56.93) and fourth in the 50 free (22.38).

The Bulldogs return home this Saturday, Jan. 24 to host Maine. Bryant will honor its senior class prior to the meet.
