Bulldogs topple Black Bears, 184-78, on Senior Day

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's swimming and diving team won all but three events on its way to a dominating 184-78 victory over the University of Maine on Saturday afternoon at the Chace Athletic Center Pool.

The Bulldogs are now 5-3 in dual meets this season. Prior to the meet, the Black and Gold honored their four-member senior class.

Bryant received a pair of first-place finishes from senior Graham Beck (Danvers, Mass.), sophomore Pierre Le Guyader (East Islip, N.Y.) and freshman Ben Schulte (Mermaid Beach, Australia). Swimming in the final home meet of his career, Beck won the 100 and 200 breast. He won the 100 breast with a time of 58.73 and the 200 breast with a time of 2:12.53.

Le Guyader posted victories in the 50 and 100 free. He won the 50 with a time of 21.75 and the 100 with a time of 48.04. Schulte won the 200 free (1:43.42) and the 200 IM (1:56.46).

The Black and Gold also received victories from freshman Colin Curtin (Wethersfield, Conn.), sophomore Samuel Linder (Dillsburg, Pa.) and junior Joshua Bjornberg (Wallingford, Conn.). Curtin won the 1000 free with a pool-record time of 9:57.19, while won the 500 free with a time of 5:00.29. The 1000 free pool record had stood since Jan. 26, 2009. Bjornberg won the 100 fly with a time of 53.57. He also finished second in both the 100 and 200 breast.

Bryant won both the 200 medley and 200 free relay. Benon Boyadjian (Middlebury, Conn.), Beck, Bjornberg and Le Guyader claimed the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:36.79. Zachary Hannon (Marlborough, Mass.), George Sommerville (Pittsfield, Mass.), Schulte and Le Guyader teamed up to win the 200 free relay with a time of 1:28.67.

The meet was the final home meet for Beck, Jerry Gargano (Branford, Conn.), Michael Doran (Westborough, Mass.) and Nathan Hirshbein (Weston, Fla.).
