Bulldogs defeat Providence

Providence, R.I. - The Bryant University men's swimming and diving team defeated the Friars 169-119 behind stellar performances from Matthew Mays, FuKang Wong, and Eric Bebel on Saturday afternoon in Providence.

"Great win for the men today.  We continue to get a little better every week. Our resilience and patience are showing. We just need to stay on course, control what we can control, and simply work hard every day."

 

Notes and Notables

  • The Bulldogs started the meet with a first and third-place finish in the 200 medley relay. The team of Mays, Wong, Bebel, and Reese Stevenson recorded a time of 1:43.83. Jackson McDonough, Calvin Groenewold, Brandon Naylor, and Dom Scifo posted a time of 1:52.09 to earn third.
  • Tyler Stringfellow finished the 800 free in 8:58.63 to place second.
  • The Black and Gold took home the victory in the 200 free when Freshman Chase Konstantakos touched the wall at 2:01.07. He also placed third in the 100 free with a time of 55.47.
  • Mays (26.32) and McDonough (28.62) continued their momentum from the relay with a first and third-place finish in the 50 back. Mays also was victorious in the 100 back (56.72)
  • Bryant earned two more second-place finishes in the 50 breast from Groenewold (29.94) and the 400 free by Stringfellow (4:18.05).
  • Bebel won both the 100 fly and the 100 free with times of 58.17 and 53.45.
  • The Bulldogs earned two more victories from Wong. He placed first in the 50 free and the 100 breast by posting times of 23.90 and 1:02.31. Fellow Bulldog Gronewold placed third in the 100 breast (1:06.07).
  • The Black and Gold secured another win and a second-place finish in the 50 fly. Scifo won with a time of 25.97, and Bebel was right behind him when he recorded a time of 26.45.
  • Groenewold earned second place in the 200 IM with a time of 2:13.20.
  • In Diving, Drew Arnold posted scores of 218.92 and 193.12 in the one and three-meter dives. Fellow Bulldog John Famiglietti recorded scores of 170.10 and 139.20 in the same events.
  • Mays, Konstantakos, Wong, and Stevenson capped off the night with a victory in the 200 free relay (1:35.76).
