Trio earn All-Academic Team honors

BOSTON - Leo Luna, Conner Lofstrom, and Christopher Buonocore of the Bryant University men's swimming & diving team earned 2024 America East Swimming & Diving All-Academic Team honors as announced by the organization on Wednesday afternoon.

The Bulldogs had the second most honorees out of the America East schools make the team, only behind Binghamton's four athletes.

Luna has posted a 3.74 in the classroom as a finance major in 2.5 years at Bryant so far. He also has been named to the Dean's List on five occasions as well as the 2023 America East Commissioner's Honor Roll. Luna took home two gold medals and a bronze at the conference championships this year. The junior earned his third straight gold medal in the 1650 free with his time of 15:33.17. Luna also took home the gold in the 500 free with a program record time of 4:26.22. The San Antonio native was also a part of the 800 free relay team that earned the bronze medal. In the regular season, Luna collected an America East Male Swimmer of the Week honor as well.

Lofstrom holds a 3.67 GPA as a healthcare administration major. Like Luna, Lofstrom is a five time Dean's List honoree and was named to the 2023 America East Academic Honor Roll. In the pool, Lofstrom had a career showing at the America East Championships. The Fort Collins, Colorado product took home the gold and a program record in a thrilling 200 free race in which he swam a 1:36.75. Lofstrom also earned a silver medal and a program record in a tight 100 free race with a time of 44.10. The junior was a crucial member of the relay teams for the Bulldogs. He was the anchor of the gold 400 medley team, the silver 200 free and medley teams, and the bronze 400 free relay team.

Buonocore has a 3.57 GPA as a finance major and is a two time Dean's List member and was a 2023 America East Academic Honor Roll recipient. Buonocore had a breakout season on the boards. He took home golds in both the 1 and 3 meter dives at conference championships with scores of 296.55 and 295.20. Buonocore's performance earned him Male Diver of the Meet honors as well. In the regular season, the sophomore took the program record in the 1 meter with a score of 339.28 and qualified for NCAA Zones. The Long Beach native was a five time America East Diver of the Week honoree for his performances this season.

To be named to the conference All-Academic Team athletes must be starters or important reserves for their programs, complete a full calendar year at their institution, and have a 3.30 GPA.
