BRYANT MEN’S TENNIS RECOGNIZED ON NEC ALL-CONFERENCE TEAM

SMITHFIELD, R.I. -  Competing in just their second year in the Division I and eligible for individual Northeast Conference honors this spring, the Bryant University men’s tennis earned a pair of all-conference honors for 2010.  The announcement was made this week by the conference office following a vote by the NEC men’s tennis coaches.

Sophomore Juan Martin Paredes (Quito, Ecuador) was named Second Team All-NEC for No. 2 singles while the doubles tandem of junior Cristian Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) and sophomore Andres Orobitg (Guaynabo, Puerto Rico) were named Second Team All-Conference for No. 3 doubles.

A transfer from Marquette University, Paredes enjoyed a fantastic year with the Bulldogs.  Overall, he was 18-10 overall and 12-9 in dual matches.  He posted a winning record at No. 2 singles at 9-8 and was 3-1 playing at No. 1 for the Bulldogs in four matches.

Against NEC opposition, Paredes went 1-1 defeating Sacred Heart’s Chris Ujkic 6-3, 6-4 and fell to Quinnipiac’s John Hughes 7-5, 6-4.  Highlighting Paredes’ year was an incredible performance at the UConn Invitational in the fall where he won four straight matches to capture the Flight A singles bracket championship.  For his efforts, he was named NEC Player of the Week.

Balestrieri and Orobitg were a dynamic duo at No. 3 doubles for the Bulldogs all season.  The pair went a perfect 9-0 in doubles competition at No. 3 with the lone loss for the pair coming at No. 2 doubles.
