BRYANT MEN'S TENNIS CLAIMS PAIR OF CONFERENCE WINS OVER WEEKEND

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – On its road trip to New York City this weekend, the Bryant University men's tennis team improved to 2-0 on the season with a couple of wins over Northeast Conference opponents, Wagner and St. Francis (NY). The Bulldogs downed the Seahawks, 7-0 on Saturday to open dual meet action before topping the Terriers, 6-1 on Sunday.

Junior Juan-Martin Paredes (Quito, Ecuador) paced the Bulldogs by going 4-0 against the two New York squads while freshman Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.), who was named NEC Rookie of the Week after a strong showing at the UConn Invitational last weekend, went 3-0 0 on the trip.

On Saturday against Wagner, Paredes teamed up with senior Cristian Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) to capture first doubles, 8-4, before knocking off Dave Garzon, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles.

After earning a point for three victories at doubles, the Bulldogs swept singles by winning each match in straight sets. Balestrieri claimed second singles with a 6-1, 6-0, win over Taylor Santoro while Parziale, Nolan Gelman (Dix Hills, N.Y.), Hart Callahan (Haverford, Pa.) and Vidith Huot (Providence, R.I.) rounded out the singles lineup, each winning 6-0, 6-0, respectively.

The Bulldogs continued to dominate on Sunday against St Francis (NY), rolling through the doubles competition with a trio of 8-1 victories to pick up the point.

Paredes rounded out his perfect weekend with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Tita Mba at No. 1 singles while Parziale knocked off Edward Alontaga, 6-0, 6-0 at the third slot. Gelman, Nicholai Hill (Ottawa, Ontario) and Connor Crowley (London, Ontario) each picked up wins at the fourth, fifth and sixth spots, respectively.

The Black and Gold return to the court Oct. 8-10 when they take part in the Stony Brook Tournament.
