Men hand Hartford 7-0 loss Friday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's tennis team came up with a big 7-0 victory over Hartford Friday, opening with a point at doubles and then sweeping all six singles matches for a 6-4 record on the season.

The Bulldogs set the tone early with a strong win at doubles, headlined by the No. 1 team of Nolan Gelman (Dix Hills, N.Y.) and Hart Callahan (Malvern, Pa.) with an 8-6 victory over Aneil Bhalla and Josh Isaacson while the duo of Connor Crowley (London, Ontario) and Nicholai Hill (Ottawa, Ontario) secured the point by topping the team of Marco Neves and Eric Floum, 8-2.

Juan Paredes (Quito, Ecuador) captured No. 1 singles with 6-3, 6-3 win over Bhalla while teammate Cristian Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) avenged a loss at the hands of Neves earlier this fall with an impressive 6-0, 6-1 victory at the second spot.

The most exiting bout of the day occurred at No. 3 singles as Callahan dropped the first set to Isaacson, 5-7, but stormed back with a 6-2 victory in the second set and secured the point with a 6-4 decision to claim the match.

Bryant went on to sweep the final matches in straight sets as Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.) won 7-5, 6-2 at No. 4 singles while Vidith Huot (Providence, R.I.) and Hill claimed the fifth and sixth slots, respectively.

The Black and Gold next head to Puerto Rico for their Spring Break trip, starting in Tuesday, March 8 when they play Northeast Conference foe, Sacred Heart.
