Bulldogs drop 5-2 decision to UConn

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Despite a pair of impressive wins from freshmen Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C) and Nolan Gelman (Dix Hills, N.Y.), the Bryant University men's tennis team dropped a 5-2 decision to Connecticut on Tuesday in Puerto Rico.

Parizale turned in the most exciting win of the day at No. 4 singles, taking the first set 6-4 and then dropping the second, 2-6, to set up a gritty 10-7 third set victory over UConn's Dave Adams to claim the point. Teammate Gelman also came up big in fifth singles as the rookie defeated Huskie freshman Ryan Carr 7-5, 6-3.

The Bulldogs received a couple of close matches at first and second singles as No. 1 Juan Paredes (Quito, Ecuador) and No. 2 Cristian Balestrieri (Mar Del Plata, Argentina) were both edged out by means of a third set tiebreaker. Paredes fell to UConn's Andrew Marcus 2-6, 6-4, 8-10 while Balestrieri dropped a heartbreaker to Scot Warden 4-6, 6-1, 8-10.
