Men's tennis cruises past Boston U., 5-2

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's tennis team wrapped up the fall season with a commanding 5-2 romping of Boston University on Sunday morning at the Bryant Tennis Complex.

The Bulldogs cruised to a sweep in doubles play before winning four-of-six singles matches to take the victory.  Sunday's affair marked Bryant's lone dual match of the fall season.

Bryant was led by senior Peter Hart Callahan (Malvern, Pa.), who teamed up with freshman Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.) to earn an 8-2 win over Boston's Jessie Frieder and Emilio Teran.

Rounding out the doubles matches, freshman duo Ernesto Arguello (Managua, Nicaragua) and Juan Gonzalez-Paz (San Juan, Puerto Rico) battled to an 8-5 victory in their match, while sophomores Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.) and Vidith Huot (Providence, R.I.) picked up an 8-6 win as well.

Moving onto singles, Boston evened the match after Friedman downed Callahan, 6-4; 6-3.  But Morris was able to reclaim the lead for the Bulldogs after cruising to an easy first-set win before gutting out a tough second set for a 6-1; 7-5 match win over Frieder.

Parziale then made it 3-1 in favor of the Black and Gold, battling Michael Kopelman in one of the day's marquee matchups.  The reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year took a 6-2 first-set win before dropping the second set.  But the North Carolina native regained his composure to cruise to a 6-1 victory in the third set, winning the match 6-2; 4-6; 6-1.

On the brink of elimination, Teran kept the Terriers alive with a 7-6; 6-4 victory over Gonzalez-Paz, but that would be the last victory of the day for Boston, as Arguello and Huot picked up wins in their singles matches to clinch the day for the Bulldogs.  Arguello fought to a 3-6; 6-2; 6-2 three-set win over Regis Chang , while Huot also earned a three-set victory against Alex Hallenbeck.

The Bulldogs will next return to the courts in the spring to begin their dual match portion of the 2011-12 season.  Check back at www.bryantbulldogs.com for schedule updates and more.
