GREENVILLE, R.I. – The Bryant University men's tennis team swept doubles play and had already clinched the match after just four singles bouts, as the Bulldogs prevailed, 4-3, against Colgate University on Saturday (Jan. 28) at Rally Point Racquet Club.

Taking to the courts for the second time this semester, the Bulldogs (2-1) saw standout performances from sophomore Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.) and freshmen Juan Gonzalez-Paz (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Richard Sipala (Quogue, N.Y.). The three players were the only ones to win both their respective singles and doubles matches on Saturday evening, and all three were instrumental in the victory against the Raiders (0-2).

Parziale got the Bulldogs in the win column with a 6-2; 6-2 victory against Sean Spellberg to start off singles. After dropping the No. 1 singles match, the Bulldogs put the icing on the cake with back-to-back wins from Gonzalez-Paz and Sipala. The former cruised to a 6-3; 6-3 win over Alan Pleat, while the latter also picked an easy victory against Connor Feuille (6-3; 6-2).

The Bulldogs set the tone early by capturing the doubles point by sweeping all three matches in impressive fashion. Arguello and Gonzalez-Paz teamed up to down Alec Goldstein and Parker Lewis, 8-5, immediately pushing Bryant ahead.

The other two doubles bouts were even tighter, but the Black and Gold came out on top in both of them. Freshman Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.) and senior Peter Hart Callahan (Malvern, Pa.) combined to defeat Luke Gensburg and Spellberg by a 9-7 margin before Parziale and Sipala finished off the sweep with a hard-fought 9-8 (10-8) thriller against Bobby Berkowitz and Feuille.

Bryant will look for a weekend sweep Sunday (Jan. 29) morning when it faces off against Buffalo.
