Men's tennis sweeps Hartford
Bulldogs sweep Hartford, 7-0, Saturday at Rally Point Racquet Club
GREENVILLE, R.I. – The Bryant University men's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 sweep against the University of Hartford Saturday afternoon at Rally Point Racquet Club. The Bulldogs improve to 5-4 on the season with the win, marking the first shutout victory for the Black and Gold this season.
Bryant did not drop a single set during the course of the dual match, starting it off with a clean sweep of all three doubles matches before going undefeated in all six singles bouts.
After sophomore Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.) and senior Peter Hart Callahan (Malvern, Pa.) started things off with a tough 8-7 (9-7) tiebreaker win against Marco Neves and Josh Issacson, the Bulldogs got identical 8-4 wins in the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots to take the first point of the game.
Moving to singles, Morris continued his success by notching a 6-2; 6-3 victory at the No. 1 position. Sophomore Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.) kept the string going with a comfortable 6-2; 6-0 victory in the No. 2 spot before rookie Ernesto Arguello (Managua, Nicaragua) had to battle Michael Kennelly before emerging victorious at the No. 3 spot.
The second half of singles play saw wins from freshmen Richard Sipala (Quogue, N.Y.) and Joshua Rubinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) and sophomore Vidith Huot (Providence, R.I.) to complete the evening sweep. Of all players, Arguello's match was the closest that a Hartford opponent came to winning a set, but the freshman won a pair of tiebreakers in the first and second sets to keep the Bulldogs perfect on the day.
The Bulldogs next face Hofstra on Friday evening. The match will be played at Brown University's facilities and will start at 8:30 p.m.
