Men's tennis drops Hofstra, 5-2

Bulldogs win fourth straight against Hofstra, 5-2

PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Bryant University men's tennis team won for the fourth straight time Friday afternoon, as the Bulldogs downed Hofstra, 5-2, in a neutral-site dual match at Brown University's courts. Bryant improves to 6-4 on the season.

After the Pride picked up the doubles point by winning 2-of-3, the Bulldogs clamped down in singles play by means of winning all but one of the six contested bouts, as the Black and Gold kept their month-long unbeaten streak intact.

Sophomore Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.) was the only Bulldog to pick up two wins on the day, as the reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year paired up with classmate Connor Crowley (London, Ont.) for a goose-egg, 8-0 win in doubles before holding on for a 6-3; 6-7; 6-1 victory in the No. 2 singles spot.

Freshman Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.) continued to add to his case for a Rookie of the Year bid with another strong showing at the No. 1 singles spot, picking up a 7-5; 6-7 (4); 6-2 win to aid the Bulldogs.

In fact, four out of the five singles wins for the Bulldogs came from the efforts of rookies, as fellow freshmen Ernesto Arguello (Managua, Nicaragua), Juan Gonzalez-Paz (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and reigning NEC Rookie of the Month Richard Sipala (Quogue, N.Y.) all picked up two-set victories in the No. 4, 5 and 6 spots, respectively.

"I'm proud of the way we've continued to fight and work hard over the past month," head coach Ron Gendron said. "We had a tough stretch for awhile there, but now we get a week off and then we go right back at it with some big regional and conference matches."

The Bulldogs return to action with their first conference match of the season on Wednesday, March 21. Bryant will play host to Sacred Heart for a 3 p.m. tilt at the Bryant Tennis Complex.
