Bulldogs blank Puerto Rico, 9-0

PUERTO RICO - The Bryant University men's tennis team cruised against the University of Puerto Rico during their Spring Break trip last week, as the Bulldogs improved to 7-4 on the season in a 9-0 blanking in their lone match last week.

Between three doubles bouts and six singles contests - all of which counted toward the overall score - the Black and Gold dropped just a single set combined during the match, as Bryant stretched its current winning streak to a season-high five matches.

Freshman Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.) was spectacular at the #1 position, earning an 8-5 win in doubles with partner Peter Hart Callahan (Malvern, Pa.) before collecting a 6-2; 6-3 win at the #1 singles spot.

Rookies Ernesto Arguello (Managua, Nicaragua) and Juan Gonzalez-Paz (San Juan, Puerto Rico) were perfect on the day as well, combining for an 8-3 win at #2 doubles before the former cruised to a 6-0; 6-1 win at #2 singles and the latter earned a 6-3, 6-4 victory at the #3 singles spot.

Rounding out the group, freshman Richard Sipala (Quogue, N.Y.) and sophomore Connor Crowley (London, Ont.) did not drop a single game in their 8-0 doubles win, while sophomore Vidith Huot (Providence, R.I.) cruised to a 6-1; 6-2 win at #5 singles. Freshman Joshua Rubinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) also got in the action with a hard-earned 5-7; 6-0 (10-5) comeback win at #6 singles to preserve the shutout for the Bulldogs.

Bryant returns to work with a home match against league foe on March 21 at 3 p.m. at the Bryant Tennis Complex. Head coach Ron Gendron will honor the team's seniors before the match against the Pioneers.
