Bulldogs drop 6-1 match to Stony Brook
Bulldogs fall to Seawolves, 6-1, Sunday afternoon
STONY BROOK, N.Y. – Despite sweeping all three doubles matches to take an early 1-0 lead, the Bryant University men's tennis team fell to Stony Brook University, 6-1, on Sunday afternoon at University Courts.
Suffering just their second losing streak of at least three games in 2011-12, the Bulldogs move to 11-7 overall while the Seawolves improve to 9-7 on the year.
All three doubles bouts were taken by the Bulldogs to hand the visitors an early 1-0 advantage. At the No. 1 flight, freshmen duo Juan Gonzalez-Paz (San Juan, Puerto Rico) and Ernesto Arguello (Managua, Nicaragua) edged Nikita Fomin and Francis Bertrand, 9-8 (3), while senior Peter Hart Callahan (Malvern, Pa.) and freshman Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.) won at No. 2 by an 8-4 decision. In the No. 3 flight, sophomores Vidith Huot (Providence, R.I.) and Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.) cruised to an 8-2 win to seal the doubles sweep for the Bulldogs.
But Stony Brook took over from there, winning all six contested singles bouts to win the match by a six-point margin. Gonzalez-Paz came the closest to pulling out a win for the Bulldogs before falling to Max Sztabholz, 7-5; 6-7; 7-5 in the No. 5 singles match.
Bryant rounds out the 2011-12 campaign with a single match next weekend, as the Bulldogs head to Brandeis University on Sunday (April 22) for a match set for 11 a.m.
