Bulldogs sweep weekend, remain perfect in NEC
BRYANT IMPROVES TO 4-0 IN NEC WITH WINS OVER WAGNER AND QUINNIPIAC
SMITHFIELD, R.I. – The Bryant University men's tennis team took care of business over the weekend in convincing fashion defeating Wagner, 7-0, on Saturday, before topping Quinnipiac, 6-1, on Sunday.
On Saturday vs. Wagner, the Bulldogs were impressive earning victories in nine matches, allowing the Seahawks to win just one set the entire day. Ernesto Arguello (Managua, Nicaragua) defeated Christain Grau, 6-2, 6-2, while Vidith Huot (Providence, R.I.) blanked Chris Rautenstrauch, 6-0, 6-0, in the first two singles positions. Guillaume Sabourin (Dubai, United Arab Emirates), Abdullah Abdulmohsen (Kuwait), Phillip Kim (Marina, Calif.) and Munir Serin (Mersin, Turkey) all defeated their opposition in singles play to push Bryant to a 6-0 advantage.
In doubles action, the Black and Gold continued their dominance, as the duo of Max Vogt (Fair Oaks, Calif.) and Serin topped Grau and Sawyer Fonda, 8-4, in the closest doubles match of the afternoon. The Bulldogs went on to win all three doubles contests en route to a 7-0 victory.
On Sunday against Northeast Conference preseason #3 Quinnipiac, Bryant was equally as impressive, topping the Bobcats, 6-1. Reigning NEC Player of the Week Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.) continued his stellar play with a 6-1, 6-2 victory over Sebastian Barbero in #1 singles and an 8-3 victory in #1 doubles with partner Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.).
In #2 singles, Vogt came from behind to defeat Fahoum Fahoum, 2-6, 6-2, 6-1, and Parizale and Arguello earned big wins in #3 and #4 singles, respectively. Sophomore Joshua Rubinstein (Trumbull, Conn.) rounded out the Bryant wins in singles play with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Corey Moergenstern in the #6 spot.
With the weekend sweep, Bryant improves to 7-7 overall on the year, but more importantly, a perfect 4-0 in NEC play. The Bulldogs will continue NEC action on Thursday with a trip to Sacred Heart, before playing at Brown on Saturday for the second time in less than a week.
