Bulldogs making history at ITAs

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Continuing their unbelievable 2013 fall campaign, it comes as no surprise that the Bryant University men's tennis team is putting together a stellar performance at the ITA Regionals in New Haven, Conn.

Senior captain Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.), junior captain Ernesto Arguello (Managua, Nicaragua) and sophomore Max Vogt (Fair Oaks, Calif.) all reached unchartered territory for the Bulldogs at the ITAs Friday afternoon.

In doubles action, the regionally seeded tandem of Parziale and Arguello were dominant in an 8-4 victory over Army's Kyle Barnes and Austin McCasin. The Bulldog captains showed great heart and energy advancing the second round of the ITAs for the first time in program history. The duo will now prepare for a showdown with NJIT's Andres Alban and Erik Artursson in the round of 64 on Saturday.

In singles qualifying play, Vogt earned a stellar win over Princetons Josh Yablon, 6-4, 7-6, granting the reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year arguably the best win of his young career. In a truly brilliant performance, Vogt heavy forehands pushed him to a two-set win over a very formidable opponent. Vogt went on to lose to Ofir Solomon of Fairfield, 6-3, 6-2, in the next round.

In the main singles draw, regionally seeded Parziale, who earned the high ranking for his strong showings at the USTA and Brown Invitational, earned a bye to the round of 32 where he will face Dylan Brown of Cornell on Saturday.

After never advancing past the first round ever at the ITAs, the Bulldogs now have a chance to make even more history as Parziale and Arguello look to keep the magic alive heading into the weekend.
