Bulldogs wrap up fall at Crimson Invite over weekend

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Closing out an absolutely terrific fall season, the Bryant University men's tennis team put up another strong performance at the Crimson Halloween Invitational over the weekend in Cambridge, Mass.

Competing against the likes of Harvard, Brown, Dartmouth and Army, Bulldog captains Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.) and Ernesto Arguello (Managua, Nicaragua) are helping put Bryant men's tennis on the map.

Parziale opened action with a huge, 6-4, 6-4, win over regionally ranked Casey MacMaster from Harvard in the main singles draw. In second round action, the senior captain put up a strong fight but Brown's Justin To was just too much as the Ivy Leaguer advanced in straight-sets, 6-2, 6-3.

Arguello faced off against Max Schmidt of Dartmouth in the B singles draw, falling, 6-0, 6-3, before coming back with a big victory against Harvard's Conor Haughey, 7-5, 6-4, in the consolation round.

In doubles play, the Bryant duo fell to a very tough Army tandem, Sam Lampman and Grant Riechmann, 8-5, before closing out the weekend with a win over Brown's Thomas Nath and Eli Whittle, 8-4.

"For years taking games and sets from Ivy League competition was one of our main goals, said head coach Ron Gendron. "But now, we have raised our expectations and are now competing with them at most spots."

The Bulldogs' historic fall season saw a huge win in the Main Doubles Draw at the USTA Invitational, program record setting runs at the ITA Northeast Invitational, and three Northeast Conference monthly honors. With nearly 12 weeks until Bryant opens its 2014 Championship Season in Hanover, N.H., the Black and Gold will look to continue to momentum through the month of April as they look to get back to the NEC Title match in April.
