Men's tennis takes down Quinnipiac, 5-2, Saturday

SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Coming off its toughest stretch of the 2013-14 season, the Bryant University men's tennis team picked up a much needed 5-2 victory vs. Quinnipiac, Saturday afternoon in Hamden, Conn.

Facing off with former conference foe Quinnipiac on a very windy day in Hamden, the Bulldogs snapped a four-game skid behind a trio of strong performances from senior Dana Parziale (Pinehurst, N.C.), sophomore Max Vogt (Fair Oaks, Calif.) and freshman John Templeman (Midland, Mich.).

In doubles action, Parziale and partner Zachary Morris (Garden City, N.Y.) took down Kei Ezaka and Ryoma Haraguchi, 8-4, in the no. 2 spot, while Templemen and Vogt defeated Alain Grullon and Bren Teicher, 8-4, in the three hole to give Bryant the early 1-0 lead.

At no. 1 singles, Parziale picked up his 20th singles win of the year, defeating Ezaka in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. At the no. 3 spot, freshman Oliver Welsh (San Diego, Calif.) snapped a four-match schnide with a 6-3, 7-5 win over Haraguchi and Templeman took care of Ben Teicher, 6-1, 6-4, at no. 6 singles.

At no. 4 singles, Vogt found himself down early vs. Carlos Fernandez after dropping the first set, 4-6. However, the reigning Northeast Conference Rookie of the Year mounted a huge comeback, winning the last two sets, 6-3, 6-3, to secure the big win.

With just five matches remaining until the NEC Championships begin on April 17, the Bulldogs will continue regular season action on Sunday when they faceoff with Yale.
